Sm Bricks

Sm Bricks is located near Turum Road in the Godbhaga area, right by Gandhi Chowk in Bargarh. It is a place that feels very local. We have the kiln nearby and the yard is usually full of activity from dawn until it starts getting dark. Being near Gandhi Chowk means we get a lot of people passing by on their way into town. The ground here is hard and dry most of the year, which is good for the bricks but tough on the feet. We have a few benches under a tree where we sit and talk to customers. There is usually a pot of water sitting there too because it gets incredibly thirsty out here. We don't have a website or anything like that. If people want to know what we have, they usually just drive over or ask someone at the chowk. The work is repetitive—shaping, drying, and firing. You have to watch the fire closely or the whole batch could be ruined. We’ve had a few bad batches over the years, but that is just part of the learning. It’s a family-run sort of feeling even if we aren't all related. We just focus on getting the piles ready for the next season. The trucks come and go, and we just keep track of it all in a dusty ledger book.
