Vells Iti

If you take the Thoppurmettur Dambhavanierode Road toward the Mettur Dam, you’ll find Vells Iti right there. It is a busy spot because we deal with vocational training, so there is always the sound of tools or machines in the background. Students come here from all over the Mettur area because they want to learn a trade. It isn't like a regular school with just books; here, the guys are often getting their hands dirty working on engines or wiring. The building is practical and built for work rather than looking pretty. Equipment needs constant upkeep, and the instructors are usually busy showing someone how to fix a part or use a lathe. Being so close to the dam, the weather stays somewhat consistent, but the workshops can get pretty warm in the middle of the day. A lot of students travel a long way on the bus to get here every morning. They bring their own lunch and eat in the shade outside. The main goal at this straightforward place is just learning a skill that can get you a job later on. We don't use fancy talk here; we just get to the work. There’s always someone hauling some metal or checking a circuit. Hard work is expected in this environment for local people trying to get ahead in life. Most of our graduates end up working in the local factories around here.
