Palani Kumaran Cement & Steel

We are located at 1/47, Siddhar Koil Main Road, over in Sivathapuram. Palani Kumaran Cement & Steel is basically a place where we spend our mornings unloading trucks and our afternoons helping customers load up their own vehicles. Being on the main road means there is always something going on outside the front door. We sell a mix of stuff, mainly the heavy basics you need to build anything sturdy. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be smart about how we stack the bags of cement and the steel bars. It gets a bit cramped when a big order comes in, but we make it work. I’ve lived around Sivathapuram for a long time, so I know a lot of the folks who come in to buy supplies. They usually stay for a bit of a chat while we calculate the totals. The work is dusty and can be hard on the back, especially when we are short-handed. But it feels good to see the progress people make on their homes using our materials. We don't have any big corporate goals; we just want to keep the doors open and the stock moving. Every day is pretty much the same routine, starting early before the sun gets too high and ending when the traffic on the main road finally thins out. It’s a steady life for us here.
