Vetri Engineering

Vetri Engineering is down at 69 Govindammal Nagar in Seelanaickenpatty. This is in Salem, right in Tamil Nadu. We’ve been here for a good while. The shop is mostly for heavy metal work. We have big machines that cut and shape steel. It gets very hot in here during the summer months. We wear heavy gloves and boots to stay safe. There’s always the smell of grease and burnt metal in the air. We do work for local factories and sometimes for people who just need a gate fixed or a frame welded. We aren't a huge factory with hundreds of workers. It's just a few of us who have been doing this since we were young. We learned the trade from our fathers or by just watching others. The floor is concrete and it's covered in metal shavings. We sweep up at the end of the day, but it’s back to being a mess by ten the next morning. Salem is a busy place for engineering, so there’s usually enough work to keep us busy. We don’t spend money on advertising. People just hear about us from their neighbors. We take our lunch breaks together under the shade of the tree out front. It’s a tough way to make a living, but it’s what we know how to do best. We just focus on getting the pieces cut and the welds holding strong.
