Diploma Holder In Costume Designing & Dress Making

I’m based over here at 3 Parvathy Puram in Arisipalayam. Salem is a place where a lot of people know their clothes, and I’ve spent a long time learning how to put things together the right way. Having a diploma in costume designing and dress making means I’ve spent many hours behind a sewing machine or drawing out patterns on brown paper. My workshop isn't very large, but it has enough room for my tables and the different fabrics I keep around. You’ll find me most days in Arisipalayam, surrounded by threads of all different colors. People come in with an idea or a piece of cloth they bought, and we talk about what can be made from it. It’s a lot of measuring and re-measuring to make sure the fit is okay. I don't really have a big staff or a fancy showroom with lights. It’s just a practical space where the work gets done. Salem has a long history with textiles, so there’s always something new to learn about fabrics. Sometimes a design doesn't work out the first time, and I have to sit and unpick the stitches to start over. It can be tedious, but that’s the reality of making clothes by hand. I just enjoy the process of turning a flat piece of material into something someone can actually wear. It keeps me busy from morning until evening most days of the week.
