Eklavya Central School

If you come down to Sulindabad in Saharsa, you’ll find us easily enough. The school has been part of this neighborhood for a good number of years. It’s a plain building, nothing too flashy, but it serves its purpose. We have kids coming in from all the nearby villages. They start arriving early, some on cycles and others walking in groups. The staff usually gets here around seven-thirty to set things up. Our rooms are filled with desks that have seen a lot of use over the seasons. We have a courtyard in the middle where we do the morning assembly. When the sun is out, it gets pretty warm, so we try to finish up quickly. Teachers here are local folks who know the families around Saharsa well. We deal with the usual school stuff like lost notebooks, broken chalk, and kids trying to skip sports class. The lunch break is the loudest part of the day. You can hear the shouting from the main road. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. Just a small room for the principal and a staff room where we drink tea and talk about the curriculum. It’s a lot of work keeping everything running, especially when the electricity goes out and we have to open all the windows. It’s just how things are for us. It is simple and practical, and we just keep going.
