You can find us right opposite Darpan Cinema on Ambala Road. It’s a noisy spot with all the traffic and people going to the movies, but we like it here. Being a co-operative means there are always a few different people around, each doing their own thing. The smell of wood is everywhere in the building. It gets into your clothes and stays there. We have a lot of tools scattered around the worktables. It’s not the tidiest place, but we know where everything is. The society was formed to help everyone out and keep the work going. We spend a lot of time talking over tea about what needs to be done next. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait, or work by the light from the windows. Ambala Road is always busy, so there is plenty to look at if you stand by the door. We don’t have a fancy showroom. Most of our stuff is just sitting on heavy wooden benches or stacked against the walls. It’s a practical setup. We’ve had the same neighbors for years and we all look out for each other. It’s a lot of manual labor and long hours, but it’s what we know. We aren't big on titles or formal meetings. We just get the carving done and see what happens from there.
