Manikeswari Adivasi (Junior) College

Manikeswari Adivasi (Junior) College is located in Kashipur, in the Rayagada district. This part of the country is quite beautiful but also a bit remote. Our college is a junior college, so we have students who are finishing their higher secondary years. Most of the students come from the local Adivasi communities around Kashipur. They often travel quite a distance to get here for their classes. The campus is simple, reflecting the rural setting of Rayagada. We have classrooms where students sit for their lectures in arts or science. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except when classes change. We don't have the big city amenities, but we have what’s necessary for studying. The students are mostly focused on getting their certificates so they can move on to further studies or find work. We handle the admissions, the exams, and the daily teaching routines. The weather here can be quite rainy during the monsoon, which sometimes makes the paths a bit muddy. We just deal with it and keep the classes going. It’s an honest, basic college for the young people of this region. We aren’t trying to be something we’re not. It’s just a place in Kashipur where students come to read their books, listen to the lecturers, and try to build a future for themselves in this part of Odisha.
