Uttam Hair Cutting Saloon

We have been at Piska More for some time now. Uttam Hair Cutting Saloon is right here in Narayan Market, Hehal. Most days start early when we open the shutter. The shop isn't fancy but the chairs work fine. People from Ranchi come in, some for a quick trim and others for a shave. We keep some old magazines on the small table near the door. The floor gets covered in hair quickly so we sweep a lot. Sometimes the power goes out but the windows let in enough light. It gets busy on weekends. People wait outside if the three chairs are full. We don't have a big sign, just the name on the glass. The spray bottles are always full of water. My hands are usually busy from morning till night. It’s a simple place. Narayan Market is a crowded spot, so there is always noise outside. We just focus on the hair. Some customers have been coming here since they were kids. Now they bring their own sons. We use the same kind of scissors I've had for years. They still cut well if you sharpen them right. There's a small mirror in the back that's a bit cracked but nobody minds. We try to keep things tidy as much as possible. It is just a regular shop for regular people. There is a small tea stall next to us where we get our morning chai. Nothing more than that really.
