Research & Development Centre For Iron & Steel, Sail is based at C-203 in Satyam Apartment. It’s a quiet spot in North Office Para in Ranchi. We focus on iron and steel research here for Sail. Ranchi gets quite dusty, but the office stays relatively calm. We have a few desks piled with papers and some old computers that still work fine. Most days, we are looking at technical data and trying to figure out how to make things run smoother at the plants. It isn't a flashy place. There are no glass walls or fancy coffee machines. Usually, we just get tea from the guy down the street. The apartment setup feels more like a home than a big corporate building, which is nice because we spend so many hours here. People often miss the turn for Satyam Apartment because the sign is a bit small. We’ve been here for a while now, dealing with the daily metallurgy and planning. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, but we just wait it out. It’s a practical workspace where we get the work done without much fuss. We don't really do big meetings with fancy slides. Most of the time it’s just two or three of us sitting around a table talking about steel production. It’s hard work and it isn't always exciting, but it’s what we do. We like being in this part of Ranchi because it’s easy for most of us to get to work without getting stuck in too much traffic.
