Diana Mens Parlour

You can find us on Kadru Road, which is a pretty busy part of Ranchi. We are sitting right opposite Lalkar Video, so if you can find that old shop, you can find us. It’s a mens parlour, nothing too complicated about it. We have got the classic blue and white paint on the walls and a few big mirrors that have seen better days. There is always a lot of noise coming from the street, with buses and bikes going past all day long. We have some plastic chairs outside for when the shop gets full and men have to wait their turn for a shave or a haircut. We use the same old tools we’ve had for a while, just keeping them clean and ready. The floor is a bit uneven in one corner, but nobody seems to mind much. We spend a lot of time talking about local news or whatever is on the television if we have it on. It gets pretty hot in Ranchi during the summer, so the fan is always blowing, though it mostly just moves the warm air around. We know most of the guys in the Kadru area because they’ve been coming to us for years. It is just a regular job for us, standing on our feet and clipping hair from morning until the sun goes down. Sometimes we stay open a bit late if there is a line of people waiting for their turns before a holiday.
