We are located right at Birsha Chowk in Ranchi, on the Main Road near the A G Bihar area. If you’ve ever been through this intersection, you know it’s one of the busiest spots in town. The traffic never seems to stop, and there’s always a cloud of dust and the sound of horns. Inside our shop, it’s a bit more relaxed, though the noise still finds its way in. We have a row of chairs lined up against the wall and the floor is that old-fashioned tile that’s easy to clean. Most people come in after they finish work, so the late afternoons are usually our busiest time. We get guys from the offices nearby and locals who have lived in Ranchi their whole lives. The walls have a few posters that have been there for years. We keep the water in large containers because you never know when the supply might cut out for an hour or two. It’s just part of living in this part of Jharkhand. The mirrors show the reflection of the street outside, which is always changing. We use simple tools, nothing too high-tech, just what works for a regular haircut. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to rely on the natural light from the doorway. We know our way around a pair of scissors and a straight razor, and that’s basically what we do all day long.
