Our shop is number 6, right near the ST bus depot in Bhanvad. It’s a busy spot with the buses coming and going all day long. We chose this location because it’s easy for all the farmers in the Jamnagar area to find us when they come into town. We mostly focus on seeds and the stuff we need for planting because that’s the biggest worry for most of us every year. We are just a group of local growers who wanted to have a steady place to get what we need. It’s not a polished store with bright lights; it’s just a practical shop where you can drop in and chat. We spend a lot of time sitting on the bench outside talking about the soil and the wind. Being near the depot means there is always someone passing through with news from the other villages. We don’t use any complicated systems. We keep our books by hand mostly and try to keep things simple. Farming in Jamnagar has its own set of challenges, especially with the water sometimes. This company is our way of trying to stay ahead of things. We aren’t looking to get rich quick, we just want to make sure we can keep our farms going for another year. It’s a lot of responsibility to run a producer company but we’re doing our best with what we have here in Bhanvad village.
