Shiv Bricks

Shiv Bricks is located out on Talwad Road, right near the Takshashila College of Engineering. You can’t miss us if you’re heading toward the college from the main part of Valsad. We are situated on Survey No. 1 in Talwad village. It’s a big open space where we have our kiln and the drying racks. The students from the engineering college often pass by our gate on their bikes. It’s a pretty quiet area otherwise, mostly just fields and local traffic. We spend our time mixing the earth and keeping the fires going in the kiln. It's a manual job that requires a lot of patience. Sometimes the wind picks up and carries the smell of burning coal across the road. We’ve been here for many years, seeing the college grow and more people moving into the area. Our office is just a small room where we keep the ledgers and have our lunch. We don’t use any complicated technology; we just stick to what we know. The sun in Valsad can be brutal, so we start early in the morning. By midday, we are usually looking for some shade. It’s a hard life but a good one. We just want to make sure the bricks are solid and ready for whoever needs them. People around the village know where to find us if they need building materials for their walls or homes. We just keep on working.
