Printwell Offset

Our shop, Printwell Offset, sits on the main road in Aji G.I.D.C., right near the Bavisi Weigh Bridge. If you look across the street, you can see Sahkar Bhavan. This part of the industrial estate is always moving. There is a lot of noise from the trucks going to the weigh bridge all day long. Inside, the smell of ink and paper is the first thing you notice when you walk in. It’s a heavy, slightly sweet smell that sticks to your clothes. We have the big printing machines lined up on the shop floor. They make a rhythmic clicking and thumping sound that we have all grown used to. There are stacks of paper everywhere, some white and some already covered in colors. We keep a small space for people to sit if they need to talk about a job, but it’s usually covered in proofs or old samples. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy with the work to worry about that. Sometimes the machines get temperamental and we have to spend a few hours fixing a jam or cleaning the rollers. It’s not a quiet life here at 378/A. The afternoon heat can get quite intense inside the shed, so we drink a lot of water and keep the fans going. It’s a straightforward business and we just focus on getting things done without making a big fuss about it.
