Harsh Machine Tools

If you know Rajkot, you know Mavdi Plot is where all the action is for machinery. Harsh Machine Tools is on Street No. 2 in Navrangpara. The street is narrow and usually lined with trucks loading or unloading something heavy. Inside our place, it’s mostly about iron and steel. We have machine tools everywhere you look—drills, cutters, and things I don't even have names for sometimes. The floor is stained with cutting oil and there’s a constant hum from the nearby workshops. We spend a lot of time talking to workshops about what kind of tools they need for their next job. It is a bit of a gritty place, but that’s just how machine tool shops are. We don't have a showroom with glass cases. Everything is out on the floor or on heavy wooden shelves. Sometimes we spend half the day just cleaning the rust off old stock or organizing the bits. People come in with broken parts, asking if we have a tool that can fix it. Usually, we do, or we know who does. It’s a tight-knit area here. We know the guys in the next shop and the one after that. The power goes out sometimes, and we just sit outside on the plastic chairs until it comes back on, talking about the market. It’s not fancy, but it is how we’ve always done it.
