Down at 2 Vaidwadi, in the Chandan Wooden Compound on Gondal Road, you'll find Shakti Machine Tools. Rajkot is a big place for machinery, and we’ve been part of it for a good long time now. Our shop is tucked away in the compound, surrounded by other businesses doing similar work. It’s dusty and smells like oil and metal, which is exactly how a machine tool shop should be. We spend our days fixing up lathes and grinders or whatever else comes through the door. The floor is usually covered in some kind of project we're mid-way through. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room, you just walk in and find someone at a workbench. People around here know us for being straightforward about what can be fixed and what’s just scrap. It’s a lot of manual labor and getting your hands dirty every single day. We don't use much fancy software to run the place, just some notebooks and a lot of experience. Sometimes the weather gets really hot and the shop feels like an oven, but we keep the fans going and keep working. It’s a solid way to make a living and we’ve gotten to know the other shop owners in the compound pretty well over the years. We just focus on the machines and getting them back to work for the people who need them.
