Ashish Engineering Works

Rajkot gets pretty hot in the summer, and out here at Plot No. 56 in the Maruti Industrial Estate, you really feel it. We are right outside the old octroi post on Gondal Road. Ashish Engineering Works has been around this part of town for quite some time. The shop floor is usually covered in some kind of metal dust or oil. It’s just how it is when you’re working with machines all day. We start early before the sun gets too high, mostly to get a head start on the orders. The sound of the lathes and grinders is the only thing you hear for most of the afternoon. We don’t have a fancy website or a big sign, just the work we do for the people who come by. If you walk down the lane, you can hear us from a distance. Sometimes we have to wait for parts to arrive, and that gives us a minute to sit on the bench outside. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s what we know. Most of the guys here live nearby and have been working in this estate for years. We know the neighbors and the guys at the tea stall well. It’s a small community of shops and sheds. We just try to finish what we started so we can go home at a decent hour. It’s just us doing our thing.
