Plot Number 38 in the industrial area is where we stay. It’s a good-sized space, right by the main market and very close to the bus stand, so there’s always something going on outside our gate. Being in an industrial zone means we are surrounded by other workshops and warehouses, so the sound of trucks reversing and horns honking is just our daily background noise. Inside, we have our equipment laid out in a way that makes sense to us, even if it looks a bit cluttered to anyone else walking in. The roof is corrugated metal, so you can really hear the rain when it pours down in the monsoon season. We have a small area near the front for people to sit down, though most visitors just end up standing and talking while we work. Our work involves a lot of moving parts, and there is usually a layer of fine dust on everything by the end of the week. We keep a water cooler in the corner that everyone uses, and the walls are decorated with old calendars that we forgot to take down months ago. It’s a practical environment where we focus on getting the tasks done. Being near the bus stand is handy because we can just walk over if we need to get somewhere fast. It’s a plain, working-class spot, and that suits us just fine. We just get on with it every day.
