Our office is over here in Karjat, tucked away in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Even though the name on our sign mentions Surat and Gujarat, our daily reality is right here in this part of the state. Karjat has a very specific feel to it, especially during the monsoon when everything gets really green, though the humidity can be a bit much when you are trying to work. We are located near the post office area, which makes it easy enough for people to find us if they are looking. It is a simple place where we manage the local requirements and keep track of what is happening with the steel shipments. The atmosphere in the office is pretty relaxed; we are not wearing suits or anything like that. We just show up, have our tea, and get to the tasks that need finishing. Sometimes the power goes out or the internet acts up, but that is just how things go around here and we deal with it. It is a far cry from a big city skyscraper, but it suits the kind of work we do. Most of the staff live nearby, so there is a bit of a neighborhood feel to the place. We do not have any big fancy lobby, just a front desk and some chairs for whoever stops by to talk about orders or deliveries. It stays busy enough to keep us on our toes.
