S.M. Bricks

Our yard is situated in Madhopara Village, which is near Jail Chowk in the Purnia Block. It is a simple setup where we make and sell bricks to anyone who needs them. We have been in this same spot for several years now. It is not what you would call a glamorous business, but it keeps us busy. The ground is almost always covered in red dust and bits of straw from when we mold the clay. We have a small crew of workers from the village who help out with the kilns and the loading. It is a lot of physical work, especially when we have several orders coming in at the same time. We do not do much talking or spend money on advertising. Most people find out about us by word of mouth or they just see the stacks of bricks when they are passing by the jail area. Our main focus is just making sure the bricks are fired long enough so they are solid. Sometimes the clay we get isn't perfect, but we do the best we can with it. It is a local operation through and through. The rainy season is always a bit of a problem for us because the kilns don't work well when it is wet. We just wait for the sun to come back and start over. It is a cycle we have lived with for a long time now.
