Essar Steel Ltd.

Down in West Bengal, we have our setup at Quarter Number B/503 in Sector 13 of Haldia. Being part of Essar Steel Ltd. in a place like Haldia is quite different from being in the western part of the country. The air here is heavy with the sea breeze and the smell of the port. Our office is in a residential sector, so it feels more like a home than a corporate building. We use the space to manage our eastern operations and keep track of the steel shipments coming through the port. It is a simple setup with a few desks and a shared kitchen where we make tea. The pace of life in Sector 13 is a bit slower than the main industrial zone, but we still have plenty to do. We deal with the local contractors and handle the paperwork for the West Bengal region. There is no pretense here. We just sit down, do the work, and try to resolve any issues that crop up with the logistics. Sometimes the electricity goes out during a storm, and we just wait it out while chatting. It is a very human way of doing business. We are not trying to impress anyone with big words or shiny offices. We are just local staff making sure the steel business stays on track in this part of India. It is a long way from the headquarters, but we manage just fine with what we have.
