Yashree Abhyasika

Yashree Abhyasika is up on the floor of Godawari Chambers, which is right in the Deccan Gymkhana area of Pune 411004. Since it’s an abhyasika, the whole point of the place is for it to be a quiet space for people to study. We have rows and rows of small desks, each with its own little light for reading. The building, Godawari Chambers, is quite busy during the day with other offices, but inside our space, we try to keep things as silent as possible. It’s funny because just outside the window, Deccan is usually roaring with traffic and people out shopping. The carpet on the floor is a bit worn out from all the feet walking over it, and the chairs are simple wooden or plastic ones that we’ve had for a while. We don’t have much in the way of decor, just the basic necessities for someone to sit for six or eight hours and read their books. There’s a small area to keep bags and a water filter in the corner that everyone uses throughout the day. Sometimes it gets a bit stuffy when every single desk is taken, so we try to keep the windows cracked open a little bit. It’s a very no-frills kind of place. People come here because they need a spot away from their noisy homes or roommates. It’s not glamorous, and the lighting could probably be a bit brighter, but it serves the students well.
