Vimal Prakashan

Vimal Prakashan is located in the Malati Complex in Kothrud, right across from the Sony Centre. We’ve been at this spot for a while, surrounded by stacks of books and stacks of paper. It’s a publishing house, but it feels more like a library that hasn’t been organized in a few years. We spend our days going through manuscripts, checking proofs, and dealing with printers. It’s a lot of sitting and reading, which can be hard on the eyes after a few hours. The Malati Complex is a busy place, and we often have people dropping by to ask about specific titles or to deliver new batches of printed materials. We don't have a big corporate structure here. It’s just a few of us who handle everything from the initial reading to the final distribution. Sometimes the office gets so full of boxes that it’s hard to walk around, but we manage. We aren't trying to be the biggest publisher out there; we just like putting out books that people might want to read. Kothrud is a nice area, and being opposite the Sony Centre makes it easy for people to give directions to our place. We don't do much in the way of promotion. Most of the authors and readers find us through the books themselves. It’s a quiet, steady life centered around the printed word and the smell of fresh ink. We try to keep things moving as fast as the printing press allows.
