Vetalbaba Farmers Producer Company Limited is located in Kati, which is part of the Indapur Taluka in the Pune district. Our office is actually at House Number 688/3, and we share the space with Gafur Rajubhai Mulani, who is one of the key people involved here. Indapur can get very hot and dry, so a lot of our conversations revolve around water and how to keep the crops healthy. We are a producer company, which means we are basically a group of farmers who decided to pool our resources together. It is a very grassroots kind of operation. We meet in the office to discuss prices, fertilizers, and who is growing what this season. There are no fancy decorations on the walls, just some calendars and maybe a few posters about farming techniques. We spend a lot of time sitting on plastic chairs, drinking tea, and trying to figure out the best way to move our produce to the market. It’s not always easy work, and there are plenty of arguments about the best way to do things, but that’s how it goes when you have a lot of people involved. We’re just trying to make a decent living for our families. The office is a bit of a hub for the local farmers in Kati. Someone is always dropping by to ask a question or share some news about the village. It’s a community effort more than anything else.
