Our place is at Gat No. 52 in Sangamner, which is part of the Bhor area in Pune. Velvandi Fed Farmers Producer Company Limited is what we call ourselves. It is a group of us who live and work around here. The hills in Bhor are beautiful, but they make for some tough farming sometimes. We aren’t a huge operation. It’s mostly just neighbors and families who have been here forever. We grow our crops and try to find the best way to get them to the people in the city or the local markets. It’s not always easy. Sometimes the trucks don't show up or the price drops right when we are ready to sell. But that’s just how it is. We don't have a marketing department. We just have our hands and our tools. We spend a lot of time talking about the water and the seasons. At Gat No. 52, you’ll find us sorting things out or just having a tea while we plan the next week. We started this company because we needed a way to stand together. It feels more solid this way. We aren't trying to change the world. We just want to keep our farms going and make sure the land is taken care of. It’s a quiet life, but it’s ours. We hope the harvests stay good.
