The Certificate Hair Salon

My shop is called The Certificate Hair Salon and we are located on JM Road in Pune. It’s a prime spot, so there’s always a lot of foot traffic and noise from the buses and cars outside. I’ve been cutting hair here for many years. The name comes from all the training certificates I’ve earned, which I’ve hung up on the wall behind the main chair. It’s not one of those expensive salons where they give you tea and play soft music. This is a regular barber shop for regular people. We have three chairs, a couple of old mirrors, and the usual smell of talcum powder and aftershave. I have two guys working with me, and we just get on with it. We don't take appointments over the internet. You just walk in, grab a newspaper, and wait for your turn. It’s a good place to hear the local gossip or talk about the latest cricket match. The floor is usually covered in hair until we get a break to sweep it up. We don't use any fancy chemicals, just the basic stuff that gets the job done. Many of our customers have been coming to us since we first opened. JM Road has changed a lot over the years, with new buildings and big shops, but my salon stays pretty much the same. It’s a simple way to make a living and I enjoy the daily chats with everyone.
