You can find Susmit Metal Handicrafts over at 656 Mangalwar Peth, which is right in the heart of the Kasba Peth area. We are located near the Gundacha landmark, and it’s a neighborhood that has a lot of history with this kind of work. The workshop is usually quite dusty because of the metal we use. We have bits of brass and copper lying around on the worktables. It’s a bit of a loud place with all the hammering and the sounds of the tools hitting the metal. The space is old, like most of the buildings in this part of town, but it has high ceilings which helps when it gets hot in the afternoons. We have shelves lined with various pieces we have finished, just sitting there in the dim light. The floors are worn down from years of people walking back and forth. It’s not a place for showing off, just a place for making things. You can hear the neighbors talking in the street and the scooters passing by the front door. We keep the shop open late most days to finish up whatever we started in the morning. It’s a lot of manual work and our hands are usually dirty by lunch. We’ve been in this spot for a long time and the routine doesn't change much. We just keep doing what we do and try to keep the workbench organized, though it never stays that way for long.
