Sunil Ghuge'S Farmer Producer Company Limited

Sunil Ghuge started this company at his place in Pangrabandi, which is under the Medshi post office in Washim. It is a real grassroots effort. We are right there in the village, working the same land our fathers did. The company is basically just a way for us to organize ourselves better. We do not have any corporate executives or big-city managers. It is just Sunil and the rest of the guys from the area making decisions over a cup of tea. Washim can be a tough place to farm when the rains do not cooperate, so we try to look out for each other. We spend our time checking on the crops, looking at the pests, and trying to figure out the best time to harvest. There is no polished talk here. We speak plainly about what we need and what we do not. Sometimes things go well and sometimes they do not, but being part of this group makes the bad times a little easier to handle. We handle everything from the seeds to the final bags that go out to the market. It is a lot of physical labor and a bit of paperwork that we try to keep up with. We just want to keep our farms going and maybe make things a little better for the next generation in Pangrabandi. It is not much, but it is our life.
