Star Leather Products

You can find Star Leather Products at Heritage House, number 6, on Ramabai Ambedkar Road. The building has some history to it, though it’s seen better days and the paint is peeling in spots. We occupy a space that’s mostly filled with the smell of tanned leather and various dyes. It’s a strong scent that sticks to your clothes, but we don't really mind it anymore. There are stacks of leather hides in different colors piled up in the corners. We spend our days cutting, stitching, and checking the quality of the items we make. The workbenches are old wood, worn smooth from years of use. We have a few heavy-duty machines for the thick leather, and they take up a good bit of space. It’s not the kind of place where you’d host a fancy meeting. It’s a workshop through and through. The light coming in from the windows is usually enough, but we have some bright bulbs over the stitching stations for the evening work. We usually have the door propped open with a brick to let some air circulate. Working with leather is slow work and requires a lot of patience. We just focus on getting each piece right before moving on to the next one. It’s a small crew here, and we just keep our heads down and do the work every day.
