Leather - Atelier

Up here on the first floor in Koramangala, things get pretty busy. We are tucked away in K R Garden, right across from the N.D.D.B building. If you walk up the stairs, you’ll usually smell the leather before you even see the door. Leather - Atelier isn't a fancy place with marble floors or anything like that. It’s a workshop through and through. We have rolls of hides leaning against the walls and scraps of material scattered all over the floor near the cutting tables. Sometimes the machines are so loud you have to shout to be heard over the stitching. We spend most of our daylight hours here at 636, 2nd Cross. It’s just a few of us who know how to handle the needles and the heavy shears. We don't really do big advertisements. Most people find us because they heard from someone else or they just saw the sign while walking by. The neighborhood has changed a lot over the years, with new cafes and shops popping up everywhere, but we just keep doing what we do. It’s hard work on the hands, especially when the leather is thick and stubborn. By the time evening rolls around, our fingers are usually pretty tired and stained. We pack up the tools, sweep the floor, and get ready to do it all again the next morning. It’s a simple life in a crowded part of town, but it’s what we know and we've been at it for a while now.
