Our workshop is out in Pimpri, specifically in the Santtukaram Nagar area at 223/1839. It’s an industrial part of Pune, so there’s always the sound of machinery and trucks moving around. Shriniwas Engineering Auto Compo Pvt Ltd has been operating from this spot for a while. We make various auto components, so the floors are usually a bit oily and there's a lot of metal scrap in the bins. Sagar and the rest of the team are usually busy with the lathes and drills. It’s not a clean, air-conditioned office. It’s a place where we get our hands dirty every single day. We have a small desk tucked in the back where we keep the invoices and drawings. The lighting isn't the best, but we know our machines well enough to work in any condition. During the monsoon, the roof drips a little in one corner, so we have to move the crates around to keep things dry. We drink tea from the local vendor twice a day, usually standing near the entrance. It’s hard work, and the days are long, especially when we have a big order to finish on time. We’ve been part of the Pimpri industrial scene for years. Our neighbors are mostly other workshops doing similar work. We don't do much talking; we just focus on getting the parts out the door and keeping the machines running.
