Down at Plot No -12 in Gajanan Nagar, things look a bit different than they used to in Old Dhamangaon. We named ourselves Shrigajananmaharaj Biofuel Farmer Producer Company Limited because we wanted to focus on something more than just the usual grain crops. Farming takes a lot out of you, especially when you see so much waste left over after the harvest is done. We started looking into biofuel because it seemed like a practical way to use what we already had on our land. Our setup is right there in the neighborhood, and it is pretty much run by people who have spent their whole lives with dirt under their fingernails. It is not a shiny factory. It is more like a workspace where we figure things out as we go. Some days are slow, and the machinery gives us trouble, but that is just how it is when you are starting something new in a place like this. We spend a lot of time talking about the supply and how to keep things moving. Old Dhamangaon is a quiet spot, and we like it that way. Most of us meet up in the mornings to plan the day's work. It is about staying busy and finding a way to make the land pay off in a different way. We are just local farmers trying to figure out the energy side of things without making it too complicated. It takes a lot of patience to get this right.
