Shri Gajanan Bricks

Out in Sukhsagar Nagar in Katraj, our yard sits at Plot 971. We are right near the Vishwa Gym, so we see people going in and out for their workouts all day. Shri Gajanan Bricks is just a straightforward place. We make bricks. There isn't much more to it than that. The ground is often uneven, and we spend a lot of time moving heavy loads from one side to the other. I started this because I wanted something steady. We have a small shed where we keep the equipment, but most of the action happens outside. The dust is a constant companion. You get used to it after a while. I don't use a computer for much; most of our notes are on paper or just kept in my head. We get local contractors who come by in their small trucks. We help them load up, exchange some news about the neighborhood, and then they go. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We wear old clothes and we don't worry too much about looking professional. As long as the bricks are solid and they don't crumble when they are handled, we are doing our job. The evenings are nice when the sun goes down behind the gym building. We clean up the tools, lock the gate, and come back to do it again tomorrow. It is just the way our life goes here in this corner of Katraj.
