Shree Cashew

If you go to Uttam Nagar and look for Shop No 2, that’s where you’ll find us at Shree Cashew. It’s a small spot, but we fit a lot of inventory into it. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the smell of the nuts, which is something we’ve just gotten used to over the years. We spend a lot of our time sitting behind the counter or moving heavy sacks of cashews around the back room. It’s not a complicated business. We get the stock in, we check it over, and then we put it out for people to see. Being in Uttam Nagar means we see a lot of the same faces every day, mostly people going to work or coming home from the local market. Shop No 2 isn't very big at all, so we have to be very careful about how we stack the boxes so they don't fall over. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little bit near the front door during the monsoon, so we keep some old towels handy for that. We don’t really do any big advertising or anything. Most people just find us because they live nearby or someone told them where we were located. The lighting inside is a bit dim, which keeps the place cool even when it’s boiling hot outside in the sun. We spend our afternoons drinking tea and waiting for the evening rush when the street gets crowded. It is a quiet life for the most part, just handling cashews.
