Shree Bhatai Mata Farmer Producer Company Limited is based in Bhadane, which is part of the Dhule district. We run things out of Suresh Pundalik Patil’s place. It’s not a formal office with desks and computers everywhere. It’s more of a place where we meet up after a long day in the fields. We’re all just farmers from the village who decided that we were tired of being taken advantage of by the bigger buyers. We figured that if we formed a producer company, we could stand together and maybe have a better life. Dhule is a tough place to farm sometimes because the water isn’t always there when you need it. We spend our time talking about irrigation and the best way to keep the soil healthy. It’s a group effort, and everybody puts in what they can. We don’t have any marketing people or anyone to write fancy speeches for us. We just say things like they are. If a crop fails, we talk about why and how to stop it next time. If someone is struggling, the rest of us try to pitch in. It’s a community thing more than a business thing, really. We’re just simple people trying to make a way for our families in Bhadane. It’s hard work and the sun is hot, but we’re doing it together and that’s what matters to us.
