Shanti Plastics is right in the middle of Shukrawar Peth, which is a very old and busy part of town. Our shop is filled from floor to ceiling with all kinds of plastic goods like buckets, tubs, and storage bins. It’s a tight squeeze inside because we try to keep as much stock as possible on hand. The street outside is so narrow that two cars can barely pass each other. We spend our time moving big towers of colorful plastic around to reach what people want. It’s a family business and we’ve been in Shukrawar Peth for a long time now. The light inside is a bit dim because the shop is deep, but we know where everything is kept. People come here when they are setting up a new house or just need something cheap and sturdy for their kitchen. We don't have a fancy display, just stuff stacked up where it fits. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming with all the people walking by and the noise of the market. We take our lunch in the back of the shop behind a curtain. There isn't any air conditioning, so we just use a couple of old ceiling fans to keep the air moving. Dealing with plastic means a lot of loading and unloading from small tempos that manage to navigate the lanes. We just keep things moving and try to help every customer who walks in.
