Shambhumahadev Farmers Producer Company Limited

Our place is out in Mahadevnagar, Boratewasti, which is part of the Indapur area in Pune. Shambhumahadev Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically run out of Maruti Baban Borate’s house, number 390/1. It’s a very local thing through and through. Most of us have our own small plots of land nearby where we grow whatever the season and the water levels allow. We decided to start this company because we were tired of struggling alone with our problems. Now we try to share the load as a group. The office is just a plain room with a few cupboards and a lot of neighbors coming in to chat. We don't have a receptionist or anything formal like that. If you come by, you’ll probably find someone drinking chai and talking about the water in the local wells. It’s an honest life but it’s certainly not easy. We have to deal with government rules and the market ups and downs every single week. Sometimes we feel like we are just moving piles of paper from one side of the old desk to the other. But then we see a successful harvest get sold and it feels worth the headache. We are just trying to keep our local traditions alive while figuring out how to survive in a modern world. We aren't experts, just people who know the land.
