Way out on Mysore Road in the Wagholi area, we have our compound at S R Nilaya. It is a big dusty space because that is exactly what you need when you are moving cranes and heavy machinery around all day. The ground is covered in gravel and oil stains, and there is always a crane being greased or a cable being checked for wear and tear. We spend a lot of our time on the road, heading out to construction sites or helping someone move something that is far too heavy for a regular truck. The Mysore Road traffic can be a nightmare, especially in the mornings, so we often start our days while it is still dark just to beat the worst of it. Our office is just a small room in the corner of the compound where we keep the logs and the keys. It is not the kind of place for meetings; it is more of a spot to grab a bottle of water before heading back out to the yard. We don't use a lot of fancy words to describe what we do. We just lift things and put them down where they belong. Sometimes a machine breaks down or a tire goes flat, and we just have to get our hands dirty and fix it right there in the dirt. It is a life of heavy iron and long hours, but it is what we know how to do well in this part of Wagholi.
