Sai Rock Hair Salon

Our spot is on North Main Road in Koregaon Park. It is a very busy part of Pune and there is always something going on outside. We have been here for a while and the shop has seen a lot of people come and go. The chairs are the old-fashioned kind that spin around and we have big mirrors covering most of the walls. I spend a lot of time sweeping hair off the floor. It seems like as soon as I finish a pile more appears. The scissors need sharpening every few weeks or they start to pull. We keep a radio on in the background but usually the noise from the street is louder. You can hear the rickshaws honking all afternoon. Most of the guys who come in live in the apartments nearby or work in the cafes around the corner. It gets really packed on Saturday mornings when everyone wants to look clean for the weekend. We have a small bench outside for when the waiting area gets full. The walls used to be a brighter shade of blue but they have faded over the years. I don't mind. It feels like home to me now. Sometimes we run out of clean towels if the laundry guy is late but we manage. It’s just a regular hair shop doing regular work for the neighborhood and staying busy with the daily rush of Pune.
