Sahyadri Leather Art

If you head over to Sadashiv Peth in Pune, you will find us near the Datta Mandir, right at Parvati Heights in Bhosarigoan. Sahyadri Leather Art is where we spend our days surrounded by the smell of raw leather and the sound of our tools hitting the bench. It is a craft that takes up a lot of time and a whole lot of patience. We are usually sitting at the benches, cutting or stitching away, and our fingers get pretty calloused after a while. The workshop is not very large, and it can get a bit cramped when we have a lot of new material lying around. We have lived in Pune for a long time, and being in a place like Sadashiv Peth feels right because it is a traditional area with a lot of history. We do not go for any of that corporate polish or fancy marketing. If you come by, you will likely see us with scrap leather all over the floor and maybe a half-finished bag or belt sitting on the table. It is honest work. We do not use big machines for every little thing; a lot of it is still done by hand. Sometimes we make mistakes and have to start a piece over from the beginning, but that is just how you learn. People from the neighborhood often stop in to see what we are making. It is a slow process, and we do not like to rush it. We just enjoy the work and the quiet focus it takes to finish a piece.
