Sagar Hair Dressers

If you walk down Tilak Road in Shaniwar Peth, you’ll find us near the Navi Paeth Talim. This is an old part of Pune, and our shop feels like it belongs here. We have been cutting hair in this spot for a long time. The shop is small, and we have those traditional heavy barber chairs that have been polished by thousands of people sitting in them over the years. It’s a simple setup. We have the usual mirrors, some combs in jars of blue liquid, and the sound of scissors snipping away. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming here since they were boys. They come in for a haircut, but stay for a bit to talk about the local news or what’s happening at the Talim nearby. We don’t have a fancy waiting area, just a wooden bench where you can sit and read a newspaper while you wait. The walls have a few old calendars and photos pinned up. It gets quite busy in the evenings when people are heading home from work. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s a bit dusty because of the road outside, but we try to keep the station clean for every new person. It’s just a basic place where you get a decent haircut and a bit of conversation if you want it. No frills. (242 words)
