Rajashree Tailoring Ferm

Rajashree Tailoring Ferm is a small place over at Anand Nagar 96. If you come by, you’ll hear the rhythmic sound of the sewing machines before you even step inside. It’s a bit crowded with rolls of fabric and half-finished clothes hanging on the walls. We have been working here for quite some time now. There is always a pile of scrap cloth on the floor and pieces of thread stuck to our clothes. Measuring people is a big part of the day, making sure the fit is just right for a shirt or a pair of trousers. We use old-fashioned chalk to mark the lines on the cloth and heavy iron scissors that have been sharpened many times. It gets quite hot in the shop during the summer months, so we keep the windows open. Sometimes customers bring in their own fabric and we spend time discussing how they want it to look. It’s a simple setup with a couple of tables and a mirror in the corner for fittings. We don't have any fancy signs or big advertisements outside. People just know we are at number 96 in Anand Nagar through word of mouth. Sometimes we are very busy before festivals and the work goes on until late at night. It is a tiring job for the eyes but it feels good to finish a garment and see it fit perfectly.
