We've been here at 28, Mahatma Phule Peth for quite a while now. If you know this part of Pune, you know it gets busy during the day. Our space isn't fancy, just some rooms with desks and boards where we sit down and get to work. Most days, it's just the sound of pens scratching on paper and someone explaining a math problem for the tenth time. We started Pushakar Classes because there was a need for a place in this neighborhood where kids could just come and study without too much fuss. There is a small tea shop nearby where we sometimes go when the classes get too long. The building is older, but it stays cool enough in the summer. We don't really do big advertisements or anything like that. People usually find us because their cousin or neighbor came here last year. It’s mostly local students from around the Peth area. Sometimes the traffic outside is loud, but everyone just gets used to it after a week. We keep things pretty simple here. There are no fancy computers or anything, just us and the books. We spend a lot of time going over the same chapters until everyone gets it. It’s a lot of work, but it’s what we do every day from morning till evening. If you walk past Mahatma Phule Peth, you’ll probably see the students standing outside during their breaks, just talking and having a quick snack before the next session starts.
