Popatlal Mehta

Our shop, Popatlal Mehta, is located on the Pune Nashik Road in Kasarwadi, specifically at 415/2 3. It’s been a family name in this area for a long time. We handle various goods, mostly wholesale and retail items that local smaller shops might need. The building is an older style, and we have a large storage area in the back for all the sacks and boxes. Being on the main road means we see a lot of trucks and traffic all day long. It gets noisy and dusty, but it’s good for business. We don’t have a fancy display window. We just have the goods stacked up where people can see them. Most of our customers are people we’ve known for twenty years. They come in, we have a bit of a chat, and they pick up what they need. It’s a very traditional way of doing things. We keep our records in big physical ledgers, though we are slowly trying to use a computer for some of it. It’s hard to change old habits. We start early in the morning before the traffic gets too heavy. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving stock around. We don't do any flashy sales or anything like that. People know what we have and they know the price is fair. It’s just a solid, old-fashioned business in Kasarwadi. We’re here most days except for holidays. That is just how it is.
