New Amar Rose Nursery

The New Amar Rose Nursery is situated out on Jordan Road in Dariapur, near the Iti College. It’s a bit of a journey to get here if you are coming from the center of Ahmedabad, but once you arrive, it’s a lot greener than the rest of the city. We spend our whole day in the dirt, honestly. There is always something that needs watering or a plant that needs to be moved into the shade. We don't have a fancy storefront with sliding doors. It is mostly just rows of pots and bags of soil lined up under the netting. We have roses, of course, but a lot of other things too that grow well in this heat. Our boots are always muddy, and there’s usually a hose running somewhere in the background. We don't have a big staff, so if we are at the back of the property, you might have to shout to get our attention. We like the quiet life out here near the college. Sometimes the students stop by just to look at the flowers. We don't try to sell them anything they don't need. If a plant looks sickly, we tell the customer how to fix it or suggest they pick a different one. It’s just about growing things and making sure they don't wither in the sun. It’s hard work on the back and knees, but seeing a row of plants thrive is enough for us.
