The shop is in Shukrawar Peth at 1473, right in the heart of the old city area. N H Pandya & Sons has been in the family for a few generations now. It’s one of those places where the wooden shelves go all the way to the top and you need a tall ladder to reach the boxes at the back. We sell various traditional items and general supplies that people in this area have used for years. The floor is old stone, and it stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We open up early and sweep the front before the morning rush starts. Dealing with customers here means a lot of chatting; we know most of the families around Shukrawar Peth. It’s not like a modern supermarket where you just grab things and leave. Here, we weigh things out or find exactly the right item from a drawer. Sometimes it takes a while to find what someone is looking for because we have so much stock tucked away in corners. We don't use much technology, mostly just a handwritten ledger for the accounts and a simple calculator. It’s a bit cramped inside, and the air smells like old paper and incense. We just carry on the way we always have, keeping the shop running and making sure we have what the locals need for their homes and rituals.
