Ankush Sitaram Gharetal’s place here in Bhugaon is where we usually meet up. Mulshi Vikas Farmer Producer Company Limited is basically just a group of us from around the Mulshi area who decided to pool our things together. Farming around Pune has changed a lot lately with all the new buildings coming up, but we’re still out here in the fields. It’s not a fancy office or anything, just a spot to handle the paperwork and talk about the crops. We deal with whatever the season brings, mostly rice and some vegetables when the rain is right. Sometimes the electricity goes out while we’re trying to use the computer, so we just sit outside and talk. It’s a lot of work coordinating everyone, and honestly, we aren't always the fastest at getting back to people. We’re mostly out in the dirt during the day anyway. My neighbor helps with the accounts because he’s good with numbers, and the rest of us just focus on the harvest. We wanted to make sure we weren't getting the short end of the stick when selling at the market. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes with the prices changing every day, but having this company helps us feel a bit more organized. We’re just regular people trying to make a living off the land we’ve always had. It’s quiet in Bhugaon most days, which is how we like it.
