Meenu Fashion Designer

I have been working from this spot on Mirza Street in Vishrantwadi for a good number of years. My shop is at number 23, and it is mostly just a room filled with sewing machines and scraps of fabric. It is not a fancy boutique like the ones you see in the big malls. I spend most of my time at the cutting table or sitting at the machine fixing seams. People bring their own material to me, and I help them figure out a design that works for them. Sometimes they have a picture on their phone, and other times they just describe what they want. I also do a lot of simple alterations for the people who live nearby. The street outside is usually quiet, but it gets a bit busy when the school nearby lets out. I have one helper who helps with the handwork when we have too many orders. During wedding season, the shop gets really full of half-finished dresses and thread rolls. It can be a bit overwhelming, but I just take it one piece at a time. The light in here isn't the best in the evening, so I have to use a small lamp near the needle. I don't follow the latest fashion magazines much; I just stitch what my customers feel comfortable wearing. It is a quiet life and I like being my own boss here on Mirza Street.
