We are based out of S-72/4 in the Bhosari Industrial Area, which is part of the MIDC. It’s a very industrial setting, surrounded by other big factories and small workshops. Mash Leather has been here for a good while, and we’ve seen the area change quite a bit over the years. The workshop floor is where everything happens. We have several machines for cutting and thinning the leather, and they make a fair bit of noise throughout the daily shift. It’s usually pretty dusty by the time we finish up in the evening. We spend our mornings sorting through the raw materials that come in on the back of the trucks. You have to have a really good eye to see if the hides are good, otherwise, the whole batch can be a waste of time. We aren't a big corporate office with fancy carpets or polished desks. Most of us are on our feet for the whole day, moving between the storage area and the production line. There’s a lot of physical labor involved in moving the heavy stacks around. Sometimes the older machines break down and we have to spend the whole afternoon getting our hands greasy fixing them ourselves. That's just part of life in the industrial zone. We have a small cabin for the paperwork, but it's mostly filled with leather samples and old patterns. The roads around here get pretty muddy during the monsoon, making it a struggle for the transport to get in. We just keep our heads down.
